National Geographic Photo Contest

The photo contest ran from April 6th to June 6th 2009.
It was judged by Steve Winter, a Transitions lens wearer and renowned National Geographic photographer.

"Judging this competition was hard as there were many compelling images submitted. The quality and variety of the photos entered really showed that the contestants were passionate about living their vision through photography", highlighted Steve Winter.

And the winners are.....

GRAND PRIZE WINNER

Alexander Gordeyev, an engineer from Russia, has been named the grand prize winner and winner of the nature's category.
His image, shot in Indonesia and entitled Bali Rice Farmer truly caught the attention of Steve Winter.
"He captured a moment that had a certain grace to it. The emotion that comes through the farmer's eyes touches me. Capturing that 'light' in his eyes makes the image".
"I just catch the moment passing by the rice terrace", added the winner.

LIFE IN COLOUR WINNER

The picture Market Boat by Jan Kostal, a freelance tour guide living in Czech Republic, depicts the favorite place, the famous flower market near Howrah Bridge in India.

PEOPLE AND CULTURE WINNER

Juan Carlos Ruiz Duarte, a pharmaceutical laboratory commercial representative from Spain, won with the compelling photo Girl in Mali. Mayda is a girl of the Bozo people, a semi-nomadic fishermen community living mainly along the banks of the Niger River.
"I shot her early in the morning. As we stared at each other without talking, it was through the camera that we communicate" said the winner.

ONLINE VIEWERS' CHOICE WINNER

David Collazos, an electrician from Spain, got viewers' attention with Contemplando su Ciuda. "When I was capturing the impressive view of Xaouen, known as "the blue city" in Morocco, an old man came and crouched down near me, lost in deep contemplation. As I was shooting, I realized he was in the picture, the perfect image that illustrates the 'Live your Vision' message".
